Eric Stonestreet Officially Christens Norwegian Aqua

April 13, 2025 | Miami, Florida
Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet, best known for his role as Cameron Tucker on the hit TV series
Modern Family, has taken on a unique and prestigious role as the godfather of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, the
Norwegian Aqua. In a ceremony held today in Miami, the “Cruise Capital of the World,” Stonestreet led the traditional christening by breaking a champagne bottle across the bow of the ship. This maritime tradition is believed to bring good fortune to the vessel and its passengers.

The Role of a Godfather

Why Eric Stonestreet?

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) selected Stonestreet for his humor, charm, and authenticity—qualities that align with NCL’s mission to bring joy and memorable experiences to its guests. David J. Herrera, President of NCL, described Stonestreet as a “true friend” of the company and praised his ability to embody the spirit of the Norwegian Aqua.

A Celebration of Innovation

The Norwegian Aqua is no ordinary cruise ship. As the first in NCL’s Prima Plus Class, it boasts groundbreaking features such as the
Aqua Slidecoaster, the longest and fastest slide at sea, and unique amenities like a clay sauna and NCL’s first Thai specialty restaurant, Sukhothai. Guests can also enjoy luxurious accommodations, including three-bedroom duplex suites in The Haven.

Stonestreet’s Excitement

Speaking about his new role, Stonestreet said, “It’s such an honor to be the godfather of such a beautiful ship.” He expressed enthusiasm about experiencing the Aqua Slidecoaster and indulging in culinary delights like red curry at Sukhothai. He also highlighted his love for travel and creating lifelong memories with family.

Upcoming Voyages

Following its christening voyage, the Norwegian Aqua will begin seven-day Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral starting April 26, 2025. Destinations include Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island. The ship will later offer Bermuda voyages from New York City and Eastern Caribbean itineraries from Miami.
